The Hamburg derby is among the fiercest rivalries in German football as fans set on a series, and Monday’s match didn’t disappoint.
St Pauli earned their first home success for 59 years at the fixture as they conquer Hamburg 2-0 in Millerntor-Stadion in the Bundesliga 2.
The triumph refused Hamburg the chance to go back to the top of the league.
“This is magnificent, the people are celebrating,” explained St Pauli boss Jos Luhukay following the 102nd derby.
“The staff and the players deserve , we won three things at a derby, that goes down in history”
Prior to a goal by Rick van Drongelen doubled their lead, dimitrios Diamantakos scored for the hosts at the 18th minute.
Under a police escort, 3,000 Hamburg fans marched before the game.
Although there were protests against the match being played on a Monday The two sets of fans put off pyrotechnics causing the beginning of the second half to be delayed.
